Saraiya Kanning

Instructor

Since 2017, Saraiya has worked as a teaching artist across multiple mediums, including watercolor, ink, silk painting, and creative writing. She takes an interdisciplinary approach, often weaving ecological themes into her art and lessons.

Saraiya creates encouraging, joyful, and compassionate class environments in which the seeds of each student’s creativity can sprout and grow. Her teaching style provides achievable stepping stones for otherwise daunting tasks and she preaches the benefits of consistent practice. There is no such thing as perfection, only the ever-evolving and fun process of learning.

Saraiya enjoys teaching all ages, from toddler to adult, and believes that art making can cultivate skills that transfer all throughout one’s life. When not making art, she can be found hiking, birding, and going on adventures with her free spirited daughter.
