A53 Make Your Own Felted Shoes

Level I – This class is for those with some familiarity with the medium. This could include informal use of medium outside of the classroom.

Design and create your own pair of custom felted wool shoes in this 6-week, hands-on course. We will learn how to transform raw wool into a seamless, durable form shaped to your feet using water, soap, and agitation. Step by step, we will move through patterning, resist construction, felting, shaping, and finishing techniques. Along the way, you’ll gain an understanding of wool’s unique structure and why it felts, building skills you can carry into future projects. By the end of the course, you will leave with a well-crafted pair of wearable shoes and a solid foundation in this ancient, versatile process. There is a $40 materials fee due to the instructor on the first day of class.
