Y31 Knot & Notion: Kumihimo Creations 組み紐

Make memories and handmade gifts while discovering the elegant Japanese craft of braiding strong, jewel-like cords. You’ll learn beginner-friendly patterns and master the disk loom with step-by-step guidance to create polished bracelets, bookmarks, or necklace cords, no experience required. Play with vibrant color combos, learn how to make fasteners, and get plenty of hands-on practice so you can braid with confidence. Take home your own disk and the skills to keep making your own beautiful pieces, perfect for gifting or wearing with pride. Supplies will be provided.

Mini Ofrendas

Come learn about the history of traditional Mexican ofrendas, or offerings, and create your own to celebrate Día de Muertos. These small-scale altars will be made out of found repurposed household materials and polymer clay. Students will be encouraged to bring materials from home to include in their ofrenda, such as small boxes and printed photos. In this class, students will have the opportunity to learn about this rich cultural tradition and honor their own ancestors through making art. Supplies will be provided. All Ages!

Alebrije Sculptures

In this class, we will learn about the traditional Mexican folk art of alebrijes. First created in the early twentieth century, these fantastical creatures are associated with Día de Muertos celebrations and considered to be spiritual guides. We will be designing and creating our own alebrijes out of papier-mâché, bringing our own imaginative creatures to life! Supplies will be provided. All ages!

Come learn about the fun traditional Mexican folk art of piñata making and create your very own! We will be using papier-mâché, cardboard, and tissue paper to create beautiful and colorful works of art that can be used at your next celebration! This hands on process will be a fun way for kids to learn about another culture while expressing their creativity. Supplies will be provided. All ages!
