Tara Sauvain

Instructor
With over 30 years of experience teaching art to students of all ages, Tara Sauvain brings both deep expertise and a genuine passion for creativity to her work. She believes in fostering an inclusive, supportive environment where everyone can develop their artistic skills and find their unique voice.
For 25 years, Tara taught middle school art, designing engaging curricula that covered a wide range of media—from ceramics and painting to digital art and sculpture. She adapts her lessons to meet the needs of diverse learners, including special needs and gifted students, helping many achieve awards in local and state exhibitions.
Beyond the classroom, Tara has contributed to the art education community by coauthoring district-wide curricula and helping develop state art standards. She enjoys leading workshops for fellow educators, sharing creative doodling techniques that boost focus, memory, and stress relief, as well as hands-on methods like gel printing, gelatos, and collage making. Her involvement in community art projects, such as murals and installations, shows her commitment to inspiring creativity both inside and outside school.
As an active artist, Tara continuously explores new materials and techniques, bringing fresh ideas to her teaching and encouraging students to think critically and take creative risks while they find their own unique artistic voice.
She holds a Master’s Degree in Art Education from the University of Northern Colorado and a Bachelor’s Degree from Colorado State University. Tara is thrilled to bring her experience, enthusiasm, and dedication to the Bemis School of Art, where she can help students of all ages grow as artists in a welcoming environment.
