As Raye puts it, “Through my lens, I want people to see, share in the art that is there in detail, and the light you see in people when one slows down to really see.”
Pamela Raye Fickes-Miller, “Raye” brings together the threads of her life, as an artist, from around the world to bring us compelling photographs that capture art in everyday urban life. Born in Houston, Texas, her talent was recognized with a scholarship to the Houston Fine Arts School, (Glassell School of Art at MFAH) and the chance to study watercolor under A. J. Schexnayder. Raye went on to receive a BFA in Interior Design from the University of North Texas.
Raye taught at the Art Institute of Houston before becoming an expatriate. While living in Paris, Raye studied photography with her mentors: Meredith Mullins, a journalist and international fine-art photographer and a protégé of André Kertész, and Juan Manuel Abellán, a freelance fine art photographer that was previously with Magnum Photos.
Raye’s art has been influenced enormously by her experience living abroad. She has had several exhibitions in Paris, France and more recently in Colorado Springs. Many of her limited edition photographs are in private collections throughout the United States and abroad.
Raye’s studio is located in the foothills of Colorado Springs. Raye is currently teaching photography at Bemis School of Art at Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College.
Raye, a licensed interior designer in the state of Texas since 1991, owned Portfolio Design for 15 years before becoming an expat.
