Mateo Ramírez Rose

Mateo is a contemporary indigenous painter based out of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Never having received receiving any formal training or instruction, Mateo is entirely self-taught in multiple disciplines. Being raised Catholic is what pulled him back into his art, healing religious trauma, reconnecting to his ancestors (and the land), and decolonizing his perception of what a modern indigenous artist ‘should’ be. It is so incredibly important to have a strong indigenous identity tied into the creation of his artwork.
