Jillian Murphy is a 2003 graduate of the University of Colorado where she studied Fine Arts and Humanities, graduating with High Distinction from the School of Visual and Performing Arts. In 2016 she earned a Master of Arts in Education with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction Design. She began her teaching career in 2005 but took a brief sabbatical before returning to education in 2010. She has been an instructor at Bemis School of Art since 2010 and a full-time art teacher with Colorado Springs School District 11 since 2012. The emphasis of her work lines in the 3-dimensional world of mixed media and photography. Her work focuses on conceptual ideas along with social and cultural awareness which she uses to design her curriculum. A strong understanding of the fundamentals of art, art history and art theory are cornerstones of her teaching. Mrs. Murphy has worked closely with many different local artists and different community art organizations to help build a strong sense of community art and collaboration throughout the Pikes Peak Region. Her passion for teaching the young artists in our community is the driving force and inspiration behind her work.
