Hilary McCandless-Beard graduated from culinary school and worked as a pastry chef and baker before turning to full time work in clay. She studied ceramics and studio art at Pikes Peak Community College, graduating in 2012 with an A.A., and now specializes in food-functional ceramic pieces intended for everyday use. She is the owner and maker behind Colorado Springs business Mcbeard Ceramics (est. 2016), for which she designs and produces small batches of minimalist wheel thrown stoneware and porcelain tableware. She offers courses in both wheel thrown and hand built ceramics for children and adults, and has been an instructor at Bemis School of Art for about four years.
