Garret’s fascination for glass began as a young child and has been a constant in his life ever since. A lifelong art enthusiast and Colorado Springs native, Garret attended Bemis on several occasions on school field trips. He attended CIVA Charter High School for 2 years which focused on the arts. Upon graduating from Green Mountain High School in Lakewood, CO, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served 6 years stationed in Clovis, New Mexico. While in New Mexico, Garret was fortunate to take a Lampworking 101 course at Clovis Community College in fall of 2010. This course was all he would need to ignite an endless pursuit for the knowledge and understanding of working with glass as an art medium.
After completing his enlistment Garret moved his family from Clovis back to Colorado Springs to open a small glass gift shop on the Westside in Old Colorado City. Garret has been instructing glass at Bemis for a year now and has broadened his art abilities into ceramics as well. He looks forward to applying his instructor experience learned in the military in addition to his time here at Bemis to support his new mission of sharing his glass/ceramics knowledge with students to help them achieve their artistic goals.
