MP1 Color Reduction Woodcut

*This class has filled. Registration is closed.*

Join Colorado College lecturer, Jean Gumpper, to learn the techniques of color reduction woodcut and create an edition of original prints using your drawings, collages, paintings, or photographs as a source. In the reductive woodcut process, ink is applied onto paper in a series of transparent and opaque overlapping layers. Gradually, these layers build up into a completed image. Techniques covered include: paper and wood characteristics, carving, transferring images to blocks, color ink mixing, relief printing from birch plywood blocks, and oil-based inks using a press. We will visit the FAC to view prints from the collection for inspiration. Please bring ideas and source images along with a willingness to experiment. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting inky or bring an apron or smock. All supplies will be provided. Co-sponsored by the Colorado College Art Department.
