Bemis School of Art

The goal of the Talented in Art program, a collaboration of more than 25 years between Bemis School of Art and District #11, is to challenge and accelerate advanced art students in grades 3-5. The program is develops the student’s academic potential and to excel them in art with an in-depth comprehensive understanding of visual arts. The program includes lectures, interactive projects, writing assignments as well as visits to the Fine Arts Center galleries (when applicable). The Talented in Art program applies the Colorado State Content Standards to all of the classes.

The program encourages:

  • artistic thinking and problem solving skills

Drawing II is for the student who has previous experience in drawing or have attended Drawing I. We will continue to study basic art techniques and concepts. Explore the next step of drawing using design, color theory, mixing and blending techniques. Learn to layer color to create rich, complex areas in our drawings. Create a variety of exciting, bold and colorful drawings. Learn the visual art vocabulary to discuss and write about art. Materials will include pencil, marker, pen & ink, pastels, graphite, and more.

Teacher will include:

  • Principles of design
  • Review of the elements of art
  • Glossary of relevant terms
  • List and description of art supplies used in class
  • Information on 4 relevant artists
  • Historical information
  • 1-2 critique writing assignments
