A40 Woodcut, What a Relief!

Woodcut is relief printmaking. Through cutting and manipulating a wood surface, actual textures are achieved and are translated into visual textures in printing the surface of the wood. We will be working in black and white only, developing a value range and conceptualizing a compositional image with a variety of lines achieved through cuts on the wood. Woodcut is a bold presentation of an artist’s vision. Come and explore this creative avenue!
Level 0 – This is for the true beginner with no prior experience in the medium. Students should be at a level of drawing beyond a beginner, to allow effective investigations of subject matter to prepare for woodcut.
