VAEA1 Surface Design on Clay

In this weekend workshop, you will learn how to take pottery to the next level by focusing on surface design. Learn how to carve, etch and stencil patterns, images and textures onto your pottery. Participants will learn Sgraffito, Mishima (Underglaze/Slip Inlay) Stamping, monoprinting as well as water etching. This workshop is designed for Cone 6 oxidation firing and caters to students who are at an intermediate/advanced level. Eleanor and Bemis staff will prepare GREEN pots to the workshop as we will do most of the decorating before the bisque state.
Workshop Objectives: This class is designed to introduce students to the possibilities for surface design on clay. The class will demonstrate various techniques with opportunities to try each technique. Students are encouraged to prioritize process and risk taking over walking away with a fully realized piece.
