Enameling: Multiple-Segment Pieces

A larger enameled wall piece can be made even with a small kiln by mounting multiple segments together. We’ll consider historical and contemporary works in enameling and other media made up of segments. In designing and making your piece with an overall image or composition spread over multiple sections, we’ll consider concept, imagery, shapes of segments (jigsaw vs. squares, for example), final size, visual texture, firing sequence, and other factors. The last class will include mounting and critique of the pieces. Ages 16-Adult

Basics of Oil Painting

Whether you’re just getting started or have never painted in oil before, you will see a drastic improvement throughout this intensive course! Painting the same thing repeatedly is the fastest way to build skills and confidence, so we will focus on still life and portraits. Through demos, light homework, exercises and final projects, your progress will be astounding! Adults

Boxes and Treasures

Have you always been fascinated by treasures no one understands and need a special place for them? In this class we will construct clay boxes of differing sizes and shapes using various techniques to hold our special objects. We will also make our own treasures out of clay and other materials to place within our special box. Come construct, sculpt, and paint with us; there will be an equal emphasis on product and process. Ages 6-9

Enameling: Rhapsody in Blues

Blue enamels, both opaque and transparent, are particularly brilliant and versatile. In this workshop, we’ll create compositions that maximize the various qualities of blue glass fired to metals, including transparent blues on silver foil, mixes and gradations of opaque blues, and overlays of transparents on opaques. This workshop gives beginners a solid grounding in enameling techniques; those more experienced address the design and expressive challenges of a limited palette--blue doesn’t just mean the blues! Ages 16-Adult

The Mountain that Loved a Bird

Explore making art using painted papers and collaging them in the style of Eric Carle who illustrated The Mountain that Loved a Bird. Bold colors and shapes will come together to create pictures inspired by the illustrations in this book. A fun and playful approach will be encouraged as well as the freedom for creative expression. Ages 6-9

Extraordinary Collages

Collaging is more than just pasting papers together. Learn the elements of composition by layering a vast selection of various prepared and bought papers. Create on a choice of surfaces, such as Tyvek, a commercial product, and various weighted boards. Integrate and blend paints, pastels, and simple prints on tissue, rice, and deli paper. You will make highly textured and colored compositions in various techniques. Are you ready to create something extraordinary? Adults
