Y18 Introduction to Watercolor for Teens

This spring break intensive workshop is for teens that want to try watercolor! They will learn basic watercolor skills including the basics of value, line, shape, form, perspective, and color. They will also explore how to assemble their own materials in the future to be able to paint anywhere. Everyone will have enough practice and confidence in their skills to keep tackling new things after class! Supplies will be provided.

Fun in the Darkroom

For eight weeks, learn to refine your black and white darkroom skills with instruction in film processing, printing with contrast filters, split-filter printing, and cropping/positioning for artful presentations. We will also explore techniques such as the Sabattier process. We will work on honing your skills to produce beautiful exhibition quality prints. Consider a local art show for your work or build a portfolio you have already started. Ages 16-Adult

Contemporary Mini Fresco-secco

Explore painting with tempera paint on a plaster surface, similar to how experts did in the early centuries, but on a smaller scale. This method produces bright, vibrant paintings. Styrofoam provides a sturdy lightweight base for the plaster compound, and when it dries, makes a dry absorbent base for wet tempera paint. This medium is great for painting impressionistic style still life and flower arrangements, or even abstract style compositions. You will have the opportunity to paint 2 paintings, plus have some fun with abstract plaster shapes. Ages 16-Adult

Abstract Botanicals

An art journal, bound in class together, will be used to experiment with acrylic paint layering techniques, collage, organic shapes and mark making to create abstract botanical images. Discover how the negative space can be used to create high impact paintings with bold colors. The final project will incorporate discoveries made by art journaling and your signature style, into an abstract botanical painted on white gesso board. Ages 16-Adult
